Originally from the UK, Dave joined CERN in 1993 after his undergraduate (Physics) and graduate (Particle Physics) studies at Imperial College in London. He has been working on the CMS experiment at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) ever since, specifically as a physicist responsible for the Electromagnetic Calorimeter (ECAL). In addition to his work with ECAL, Dave has worked as CMS’s Education & Outreach Coordinator and as the IPPOG representative from CMS since 1999. He was awarded the European Physical Society prize for Particle Physics Outreach in 2005, following in the footsteps of a number of other IPPOG members. "Bringing the excitement of what we do here at CERN to the public - both in terms of the cutting-edge technology and the fundamental questions we are asking - has always been of great interest to me. Indeed sharing our knowledge is an essential tenet of basic research. IPPOG is playing a major role in this activity, developing new methods of informal education for students and sharing the wonders of particle physics with all audiences."
Dave was elected IPPOG Co-Chair in 2009-2012.
