To introduce viewers to the ATLAS Trigger Data Acquisition (TDAQ) system and increase understanding of its essential role in the ATLAS experiment on the LHC at CERN.

Information

The ATLAS detector on the LHC will give us more and more data on particle collisions than has ever before been collected. Out of all of this data collected how do ATLAS scientists select the data that is really important to them? In this interview by ATLAS's Steven Goldfarb (U Michigan), Chris Bee, TDAQ Project Leader describes how we filter the tremendous amount of data being produced by ATLAS to just the data scientists really want to keep and examine. Topics covered in this interview includes an explanation of theTDAQ (its name/what it does), how the trigger acts as a filter on 3 levels for data being taken, and how the TDAQ team minimalizes the risk of throwing away good data. The interview is concluded with Goldfarb restating what the TDAQ is and does in one sentence.
