Electromagnetic Calorimeter

Product of the ATLAS Collaboration

Avaliability

Purpose

To raise awareness of the Electromagnetic Calorimeter in the ATLAS detector on the LHC at CERN

Information

This colorful 3D animation is an excerpt from the film "ATLAS-Episode II, The Particles Strike Back." Shot with a bug's eye view of the inside of the detector. The viewer is taken on a tour of the inner workings of the electromagnetic calorimeter. Topics covered include an explanation of what the calorimeter is designed to measure, its structure, what happens when particles pass through the calorimeter, and how the energy of particles can be measured with this complex tool.
