Purpose

1. Prepare students for LHC masterclass 2. Stand-alone vector addition and particle physics exercise in classroom

Information

Students are given sheets with images of nearly 2-dimensional dimuon events from ATLAS and CMS. They use vector addition, conservation laws, and a little relativity to calculate the mass of the Z boson. In a classroom, students are encouraged to combine results to find a consensus value of the Z boson mass.
