A Question of Survival

This presentation was given at TEDxTUM 2015 in front of a large public audience and was recorded and published on the TEDxTUM site, as well as on their YouTube channel.  It attempts to answer the question of why we do basic research by describing it as a necessary facet of human survival.

Let's Begin…

In 2012, scientists at CERN discovered evidence of the Higgs boson. The what? The Higgs boson is one of two types of fundamental particles and is a particular game-changer in the field of particle physics, proving how particles gain mass. Using the Socratic method, CERN ...

This presentation was given at the 1st World Conference on Physics Education (WCPE) in Istanbul (Turkey) in July 2012. We describe the methodology employed for the IPPOG International Masterclasses, summarizing the hands-on activities physics analyses. We discuss the results of the evaluations...

This tutorial gives a basic introduction into fundamental concepts of data analysis in HEP experiments. In the current format it has been used for a one-week course in the context of a HEP workshop and a data analysis school. It should be most useful for undergraduate students who have the basic...
