ATLAS Interview - Dave Charlton, ATLAS Deputy Spokesperson, ATLAS Experiment on the LHC at CERN
Interview with Dave Charlton, Deputy Spokesperson of the ATLAS Experiment. (2010). Charlton is interviewed by ATLAS colleague Steven Goldfarb (U Michigan, USA). Subjects covered include what is done with data collected from ATLAS, what has been found in the data so far, why particles in ATLAS are heavier in mass than in previous experiments and why this is useful, how ATLAS is testing existing models and theories and the potential for new discoveries (e.g. new particles such as dark matter, Higgs particle, unknown particles). Charlton concludes his talk explaining why if this 40+ year science experiment does not see anything is also a good thing as it will prove existing models are wrong, bringing important new learning to science on which to move forward.
