Anja Kranjc Horvat

Anja is an educational researcher and project coordinator at EPFL, working for the European University Alliance EuroTeQ, where she focuses on bridging research and practice in engineering education. She was previously a senior fellow at CERN, contributing to science outreach initiatives for the CERN Science Gateway.

Her background is closely aligned with IPPOG’s mission. During her PhD at CERN and the University of Potsdam (Germany), she focused on particle physics education for high-school teachers and students. Her work resulted in an expert concept map of particle physics for secondary education and evidence-based recommendations for the development of high-school curricula and teacher training in particle physics. Her current research interests focus on the evaluation of science outreach and on the nature of science in physics outreach contexts.

Anja has been actively involved in education and outreach since her MSc studies in educational physics in Ljubljana in 2015. She has contributed to science shows, physics workshops for diverse age groups, and CERN’s teacher programmes, and co-coordinated the Slovenian Teacher Programmes at CERN. She remains particularly active in particle physics outreach in Slovenia, maintaining strong connections with educational institutions and public outreach organisations, and fostering links between local audiences and the international particle physics community.
