Particle physics to the public

A set of short notes proposed by the IPPOG Working Group: Explaining Particle Physics to the Public

Precision counts

Often precise observations trigger breakthroughs in science and radically change our view of the world. The Standard Model of particle physics describes most phenomena of microcosm to a precision of better than a per mil. It leaves, however, many important questions open. - By Thomas Naumann

We enter the scalar era

For the first time in the history of physics we go from studying fundamental vector fields of forces to fundamental scalar fields which do not mediate forces. Some physicists argue that all these scalar fields are somehow connected with each other. - By Thomas Naumann
