ATLAS Interview - Dave Charlton, ATLAS Deputy Spokesperson, ATLAS Experiment on the LHC at CERN

Interview with Dave Charlton, Deputy Spokesperson of the ATLAS Experiment. (2010). Charlton is interviewed by ATLAS colleague Steven Goldfarb (U Michigan, USA). Subjects covered include what is done with data collected from ATLAS, what has been found in the data so far, why particles in ATLAS are heavier in mass than in previous experiments and why this is useful, how ATLAS is testing existing models and theories and the potential for new discoveries (e.g. new particles such as dark matter, Higgs particle, unknown particles).

ATLAS Interview - Benedetto Gorini ,Commissioning/Run Coordinator ATLAS Experiment on the LHC at CERN

The ATLAS detector is a highly sophisticated and complex tool. ATLAS physicist Stephen Goldfarb (U of Michigan) interviews colleague Benedetto Gorini, ATLAS Commissioning /Run Coordinator. In this interview, Gorini explains to viewers the ATLAS control room's role in ensuring the proper functioning of this tool through a quick tour of the control room. He explains what the different desks do, what the screens are showing, and how all of this is coordinated.

ATLAS Interview - Chris Bee, TDAQ Project Leader, ATLAS Experiment on the LHC at CERN

The ATLAS detector on the LHC will give us more and more data on particle collisions than has ever before been collected. Out of all of this data collected how do ATLAS scientists select the data that is really important to them? In this interview by ATLAS's Steven Goldfarb (U Michigan), Chris Bee, TDAQ Project Leader describes how we filter the tremendous amount of data being produced by ATLAS to just the data scientists really want to keep and examine.

PhD TV: Dark Matters

Through hand drawn illustrations, this video creatively explains the basics on what we know about dark matter. Contents of this video are based on what the author learned during a conversation with physicists Daniel Whiteson and Jonathan Feng about Dark Matter and how CERN's collider is helping answer the question "What is dark matter?".

Smashing Science

In 2009 twelve high school students won the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair's "Best of Category" Award. The prize? A trip to Geneva, Switzerland to explore CERN. This short film made by one of the student winners, Eliza McNitt, documents these young scientists' experiences on their journey to visit the Large Hadron Collider at CERN and the groundbreaking science they discover along the way. The film includes scenes with CERN's Dr. David Barney, Dr. John Ellis, Dr. Wolfgang Von Rueden, Dr. Jim Virdee, and Dr. Steven Goldfarb.
