The International Masterclasses 2024 have concluded few days ago. We reflect on nearly seven weeks of a packed schedule.
Almost every day, masterclasses were held somewhere in the world. Physicists in over 200 institutes invited high school students to spend a day experiencing how research is conducted in particle physics. Several research labs joined the program for the first time and contributed to the ongoing growth helping to inspire the next generation and to attract young researchers to HEP.
As we express our thanks to everyone who contributed to the success of the International Masterclasses, we recognise that this significant effort depends on the support of many. Physicists worldwide shared their knowledge, welcoming students into their research centers and helping them navigate the complexities of scientific research.
The moderators stationed at esteemed institutions such as CERN, Fermilab, GSI, KEK, and the Pierre Auger Observatory, facilitated enriching video conferences, fielding questions from eager student groups and fostering meaningful dialogue. Behind the scenes, the dedicated support teams at CERN, Fermilab, and beyond, alongside the IMC steering group and the working group on video conferences, provided invaluable assistance, ensuring the seamless execution of the program.
We extend our deepest appreciation to the countless teachers and educators who support the cause of science education, as well as to the funding agencies whose generosity made it all possible.
Looking ahead, we eagerly anticipate the opportunity to once again organise the International Masterclasses next year.
