On November 14, 2024, students from around the globe will participate in the LHC World Wide Data Day (WWDD), a 24-hour event that offers high school students a unique opportunity to analyse data from the Large Hadron Collider (LHC). Spanning from midnight to midnight UTC, participants will engage in data analysis and share their findings through a continuous 24-hour videoconference, moderated by physicists taking shifts across various global locations. This event is organised by Quarknet.
High school teams, guided by teachers or other qualified supervisors, will analyse open public data from the LHC and upload their results before joining a scheduled 30-minute videoconference. During these sessions, teams will present their findings, discuss experiences, and engage in Q&A sessions with their co-participants and moderators. While the event is geared primarily towards high school students, university faculty, staff, and students may also participate as supervisors or moderators.
This event fosters a hands-on learning experience, allowing students to dive into real-world physics research, collaborate with international students, and interact with professionals in the field.
