The Physics Centre of Minho University (CFUM) is a part of the Centre of Physics of Minho and Porto Universities (CF-UM-UP), a joint research unit officially approved by the Portuguese Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT).

The CFUM is a research unit with a multi-disciplinary scientific activity in the fields of Pure and Applied Physics and adjacent areas. It involves both theoretical and experimental research as well as development for applications, and concerns four major scientific areas: (1) Condensed Matter Physics, (2) Nanomaterials and Applications, (3) Molecular Physics and Biophysics, and (4) Optics, Optometry and Vision Sciences. Recently, Particle Physics and Cosmology became the new activities at the University of Minho, integrated in the iLAPP-CFUM laboratory.

The CFUM is also committed to advanced training of students at Bachelor, Master, and PhD levels. In addition, CFUM members conduct outreach activities (beyond the walls of the University) aimed at promoting the scientific knowledge acquired within the Centre.
