Research & Teaching

The Physics Department carries out world-leading research in experimental and theoretical physics.

The Particle Physics Theory Group is the fourth largest particle physics theory group in the UK, with interests in a wide range of topics in fundamental particle physics, from the theory of the strong interactions and physics beyond the Standard Model to black holes, holography and string theory.

The Atomic, Molecular and Quantum Physics Group conducts research in positron and antihydrogen physics, cold atoms, quantum control, ultra-fast phenomena and nano-scale science. The Alpha antimatter experiment is based at CERN.

Physics is taught at BSc, MSc and Postgraduate level, with bursaries available from a number of sources.

Outreach

Swansea's Department of Physics and College of Science organise a number of events throughout the year, from the Institute of Physics Christmas lectures to Particle Physics Master Classes in the Spring.
