University of Mostar is a public institution of higher education which comprises 10 faculties and one art academy with 15 000 students enrolled in different study programs.

Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, Computing and Electrical Engineering dates back in 1959. when Higher Technical School of Mechanical Engineering was founded and in 1976. it grew into independent institution of higher education within the frame of University of Mostar. At present time faculty consists out of three study programs and an autonomous institution - Institute for Mechanical Engineering.

Both institute and faculty have several research groups which address a spectrum of research and development activities in applied areas including analysis of nondestructive welding methods, motors and motor vehicles, CNC programming, mechatronics, biomechanics and methods of fast prototype production.
