The High Energy Physics group is dedicated to fundamental research at the highest energy scales through participation in various experiments at the world's and most advanced accelerators (D0 at Fermilab, VERITAS at the FLWO and ATLAS at CERN). McGill in addition runs a big theory group dedicated to research in high energy physics. This involves quantum field theory and perturbation theory. An other related topic is astro physics which often deals with high energy photons and fundamental particle processes leading to overlap with the fundamental high energy physics. This effect is well represented in the fact that a couple of professors at McGill are leading research in both fields.
