Science Journal - Élémentaire - No. 2: le neutron

This is number 2 of a series of 8 journals. No.2 published in Automn 2005. Complete title of journal is "Élémentaire - de l’infiniment petit à l’infiniment grand." Élémentaire ("Elementary") is an outreach journal in French whose eight issues cover the particle physics, from the atom to the discoveries expected at the CERN Large Hadron Collider. Each issue contains about 15 recurring articles which present the stakes of the physics of the infinitely small, such as the tools and the methods used to study this physics.

Teaching the Standard Model with charges and interactions

This article is part of the proceedings of the GIREP-MPTL conference 2018. It describes the key ideas and argumentation steps of the teaching approach developed by Netzwerk Teilchenwelt for the introduction of the base concepts of the Standard Model of particle physics, namely charges, interactions and particles.

The quantum prisoner

The Quantum Prisoner is a browser-based game created by the CEA with the sole purpose of making science fun and more accessible. The game is completely free with no registration required (unless you want to share your game between several devices), no ads. Le Prisonnier quantique est un jeu-vidéo d'aventure au cœur des sciences et des technologies. Dans la peau de Zoé, vous partirez aux 4 coins du monde sur les traces d'Artus Cropp, un physicien mystérieusement disparu dans les années 60, et de son formidable héritage : une découverte qui changera le monde...

Impact of science on society and sustainable development showcased by particle physics and CERN

This presentation provides an overview of the broad positive impact of science on society and sustainable development, using CERN as a main example. As scientific community faces threatened funding of large experimental endeavors and low interest of young generation to engage in studies of physics and related sciences (refered to as "STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) crisis"), the justification of basic research has become more important than ever.
