For the first time this year, IPPOG launched a new contest: the IPPOG Photo Contest. Many participated, sending in beautiful photos capturing moments dedicated to the outreach days of particle physics through the International Masterclasses program, which has been attracting the attention of thousands of young students (and perhaps, future scientists) for years.
The IPPOG Photo Contest shows how powerful visual storytelling can be, capturing moments of insight and discovery from the International Masterclasses with amazing creativity. As we celebrate the winners who've brightened up the scientific scene with their photos, let's give a big congratulations to each of them.
The winners have been announced during the 2u7th IPPOG spring meeting in Madrid (22-24 May 2024).
1st prize: Stefano Marcellini from Bologna. Title of the series (5 photos): Hands on Particle Therapy.
2nd prize: Joseph Wataka and Lydia Roos from Nairobi: ATLAS Master Class in Kenya.
3rd prize: E. Maurice and S. Pieyre from Polytechnique, alongside Cecilia Uribe Estrada from Mexico, clinch the third place ex-aequo.
Adding to the recognition given to the winners, we want to highlight R. Sarmento and H. Carvalho from Portugal for their captivating timelapse, which has earned them a special honor.
To the winners, we commend their creativity, dedication, and passion for scientific exploration. Their contributions have not only added richness to the International Masterclasses Program, but have also sparked curiosity and appreciation in countless individuals.
To everyone involved in the IPPOG Photo Contest—participants, organisers, and supporters—thank you for your invaluable role. See you next year for the second edition!
